Description of the service

This app allows the user to construct and visualize radio maps that provide the strength of cellular signals in areas where measurements have been collected. When the user enters the measurement collection mode, the app records the location and signal strength at regular intervals. The idea is that the user then moves the device around the area where a map is to be constructed.

These georeferenced measurements are sent to a server that constructs radio maps and sends them back to the app for visualization. The server combines the measurements collected by all users but no user can identify or see the measurements of other users.

Collecting measurements is optional, i.e., the app may be used just to visualize maps.

Which data is collected, why it is collected, and how it is used

• User information. The name and email address provided during account creation are used to manage user accounts, recover passwords, and allow the deletion of the data associated with the account upon user request.
• Georeferenced signal strength measurements. When the user enters the measurement collection mode, the app collects the device location and the cellular signal strength at regular intervals. A radio map is essentially the result of interpolating these measurements over the area of interest. These measurements are stored in a server and combined with measurements from other users to create radio maps. Individual user measurements are stored together with a user identifier so that the measurements of a user can be deleted if the user requests it. The measurements are not shared with third parties or other users, who can only see fully annonymized radio maps.
• Device information. The measurements are stored together with an identifier of the device. This information is used to correct for measurement biases since different device models may report different signal strength values for the same location. The device information is not shared with other users or third parties.
